What Delmarva Chefs Cook on Thanksgiving

Jimmy O’ Conor of Woody’s Dewey Beach

Growing up, O’ Conor recalls helping his grandmother make homemade buttermilk biscuits during the holidays.

Her simple list of ingredients, an old North Carolina recipe, has been passed down from generation to generation and now sits in his own family cook book. He pulls it out from time to time, relishing in the nostalgia each bites brings.

“There’s nothing special to it,” he said. “It’s just a really, really good biscuit.”

O’ Conor intends to make a few batches this year since he will finally have the time. For the first time in seven years, he will be closing his Dewey Beach restaurant to enjoy pigging out with his family. And his grandmother’s homemade buttermilk biscuits won’t be the only side required at his table.

“Cranberry sauce out of the can,” he said. “It’s gotta have the lines on it. That’s Thanksgiving for me.”
